It’s summertime, and I have been sharing various summer-friendly recipes for babies and toddlers since last few weeks. As I have mentioned earlier, keeping kids hydrated is important. So, today, I have come up with one more summer treat.

Summer is a season for melons, and watermelons are one of them. In today’s recipes, I have used just two ingredients, watermelon, and mint. The result is one frozen delicious treat.

My daughter used to love this sorbet as a baby and still relishes it. In fact, the entire family enjoys it. It is a great afternoon snack for little ones. I have added mint to this recipe for an extra burst of freshness. Mint has its own health benefits.

Watermelon is one of the best summer fruits for little ones which has various health benefits. It helps in maintaining the hydration level of the body. It is 93% water, so it is the ideal fruit for summer for hydration. It is a great source of vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, niacin, folate, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, sodium, iron, manganese, copper, and zinc. This melon helps in the bone development and has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

I introduced my daughter to this summer fruit while she was 8 months of age. Melons are acidic in nature, so sometimes babies might develop a rash. So to be on a safer side, consult your pediatrician before introducing melons. Watermelon can be a perfect finger food too. Babies enjoy frozen watermelon, especially when they are teething. Since cold food soothes their gums.

While choosing a watermelon, look for ones which are uncut. Especially for baby food. Cut watermelons are at a high risk of contamination. When choosing an uncut fruit, pick ones which feel heavy. Heaviness in the fruit indicates, more water content and the fruit is ripe. Look for the yellow spot, the creamy yellow spot indicates it’s ripe. The fruit should be uniformly shaped. Store the cut fruit, in an airtight container and refrigerate it.

This sorbet is a perfect summer treat for all the ages. It can be a dessert for your next summer party. Adults can have this with an added shot of alcohol.

Let’s go through the recipe.
