While growing up, I started having an aversion to certain foods. I hated and still hate all gooey, mushy, textural foods and foods with strong taste or flavor. Hence at times, healthy foods are out of my personal favorite list.

One of them is Sweet Potato. My mom used to make porridge of sweet potatoes, which people used to relish, but I just avoided it. Somehow I developed a very strong dislike towards them.

I wanted to make sure my daughter didn’t follow my footsteps in this regard. So I introduced her to sweet potatoes at 6 months. They are considered to be one of the best introductory food for babies.

Sweet potatoes are packed with beta-carotene, which is essential for normal growth and development, the function of immune system and vision. They have various antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and help in maintaining normal blood sugar level.

While shopping for these, pick ones which are free from bruises, cracks, soft spots, and should be firm. Avoid getting those which are displayed in the refrigerated section of the store, as cold alters its taste.

Sweet potatoes should be stored in a cold dark place away from excess heat.
