Introducing babies to solid food for the first time is always exciting. I tried my best to come up with different recipes for my little one to satisfy her ever-changing taste for food.

Today at the age of 2 years, she is an avid fruit and vegetable eater. Giving the taste of produce at an early age lays a foundation for what babies would prefer later in life.

Keeping this in mind, today I am sharing a recipe made from two nutritious fruits.

Here I have cooked plums and apples together and added some cardamom powder to it. This puree can be combined with various other foods like bananas, baby cereals, yogurt etc.

Plums are filled with vitamin c vitamin k, copper, fiber, and potassium. They have various antioxidants and help in better absorption of iron. Plums are high in fiber which helps relieve constipation in babies and toddlers. Plums can be introduced to babies as early as 6 months. But, I introduced my little one to this fruit after she turned 8 months of age.

While shopping for plums, look for ones that are free from any cuts or bruises. They should yield to gentle pressure and should be little soft at their tip. You can also purchase plums that are firm and ripe them back at home.

Avoid those which are too hard, as they would be immature and will probably not develop a good taste. Plums can be left at room temperature to ripen. Once they are ripe, these plums can be stored in the refrigerator for a few more days.

You can freeze plums too,  just make sure to remove the stone before freezing to ensure maximum taste. Plums can are available in the market from May through October.

Let’s go through the recipe.

Recipe Notes

  • This puree will be more towards the sour side, so it is best to serve it with a sweet fruit like Banana.
  • When choosing an apple for this puree, pick a sweet variety like Fiji or Gala apples.
  • Plum puree can be a great topping for ice cream for kids and parents.

I applaud you for doing a website on making baby food. It’s so important. I made all my own baby food as well. This plum dish would have been well loved by all my kids and I’ll be showing my daughters your site!

I love that you are including baby purees! I have made all of my baby food, but my second child is proving to be a little bit pickier than his big sister so I am having to come up with new ideas and different purees! I love the idea of mixing plums with apples, and the cardamom – that’s genius!
